Abstract
Purpose
The cross-docking strategy has a significant influence on supply chain and logistics efficiency. This paper aims to investigate the most suitable and efficient way to schedule the transfer of logistics activities and present a meta-heuristic method of the truck scheduling problem in cross-docking logistics. A truck scheduling problem with products time window is investigated with objectives of minimizing the total product transshipment time and earliness and tardiness cost of outbound trucks.
Design/methodology/approach
This research proposed a meta-heuristic method for the truck scheduling problem with products time window. To solve the problem, a lower bound of the problem is built through a novel two-stage Lagrangian relaxation problem and on account of the NP-hard nature of the truck scheduling problem, the novel red deer algorithm with the mechanism of the heuristic oscillating local search algorithm, as well as adaptive memory programming was proposed to overcome the inferior capability of the original red deer algorithm in the aspect of local search and run time.
Findings
Theory analysis and simulation experiments on an industrial case of a cross-docking center with a product’s time window are conducted in this paper. Satisfactory results show that the performance of the red deer algorithm is enhanced due to the mechanism of heuristic oscillating local search algorithm and adaptive memory programming and the proposed method efficiently solves the real-world size case of truck scheduling problems in cross-docking with product time window.
Research limitations/implications
The consideration of products time window has very realistic significance in different logistics applications such as cold-chain logistics and pharmaceutical supply chain. Furthermore, the novel adaptive memory red deer algorithm could be modified and applied to other complex optimization scheduling problems such as scheduling problems considering energy-efficiency or other logistics strategies.
Originality/value
For the first time in the truck scheduling problem with the cross-docking strategy, the product’s time window is considered. Furthermore, a mathematical model with objectives of minimizing the total product transshipment time and earliness and tardiness cost of outbound trucks is developed. To solve the proposed problem, a novel adaptive memory red deer algorithm with the mechanism of heuristic oscillating local search algorithm was proposed to overcome the inferior capability of genetic algorithm in the aspect of local search and run time.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine sharing economy online marketplaces with the aim of understanding how trust perceptions form and get communicated through sharing economy platforms.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors build on online user comments and reviews as aggregated by independent third-party websites, and apply a qualitative analysis.
Findings
The findings show that the quantity of information and communication are important drivers towards building trust perceptions, while an overall lack of interaction between users and the marketplace provider intensifies perceived risks.
Originality/value
The authors validated the importance of trust and the authors have illustrated that the critical conditions that hinder trust formation are information asymmetry as well as the lack of interaction. What is also an interesting implication is that the impact of both of these can be exacerbated when there is a perceived lack of support among users and between them and the marketplace operator.

Abstract
This chapter begins with the premise that much that has been considered ‘new’ within Centre-Western institutions of research and learning has already been there outside the West but not recognised as such. A reconstructed ethnographic account, using creative non-fiction, of the experience of a doctoral student abroad in a Western university shows how she struggles to recover the unrecognised ‘new’ from her own deCentred past. The element of struggle is made harder by powerful Centre narratives of denial that she meets and also brings with her. This analysis follows a postcolonial, critical cosmopolitan approach informed by the social action theory of Max Weber. This is embodied in my grammar of culture, at the centre of which small culture formation on the go brings intercultural experience from the everyday past. However, this deCentred, hybrid, third-space process is constantly derailed and truncated by Centre discourses and narratives that seek to segment and rationalise learning and research processes within positivist and neoliberal structures and false essentialist conceptualisation of hybridity and third space. The chapter also addresses my own positionality as a Western researcher and educator and how I am able to write about the deCentred Self struggling against a divisive Centre Other. I claim insider knowledge of the workings of Centre structures and a neoliberal West as steward discourse that covertly Others beneath a seductive yet false veneer of well-wishing. My own interculturality is enriched by a personal struggle to find hidden realities. The reconstructed ethnographic account will therefore also demonstrate how false perceptions from the Centre make it difficult for all of us to arrive at deCentred understandings.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to address the impact of induced magnetic field in mixed convective stagnation flow of TiO2-Cu-water hybrid nanofluid towards a stretchable sheet. Non-linear thermal radiation and heat source/sink are accounted. Flow of hybrid nanofluid is discussed. Non-linear partial differential expressions are converted to ordinary ones through appropriate transformations.
Design/methodology/approach
The obtained systems are solved for convergence solutions via homotopy analysis method. Graphical results are discussed for different physical variables on the velocity, induced magnetic field and temperature fields for both Cu water nanofluid and TiO2-Cu-water hybrid nanofluid. Finally, the effect of different physical variables on skin friction coefficient (Cfx) and Nusselt number Nux in the presence of water nanofluid and TiO2-Cu-water hybrid nanofluid are discussed.
Findings
Velocities and induced magnetic field are increasing functions of mixed convection parameter and nanoparticle volume fraction. Temperature rises for higher radiation parameter. Skin friction is greater in case of Cu-water nanoliquid, while Nusselt number is less for Cu-water nanofluid when they are compared with hybrid nanoliquid TiO2-Cu-water.
Originality/value
No such work is not yet present in the literature.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to study a dynamic post-disaster emergency planning (PDEP) problem in an integrated network through the investigation of the selection of shelters, medical centers and distribution centers (DCs), and the allocation of evacuees and injured people. The resource and people assignment in multiple periods are considered.
Design/methodology/approach
A mathematical formulation is provided for the PDEP problem. The authors decompose the model into two sub-models as follows: the primary model is an integer programming model and the subproblem is a nonlinear programming model with continuous variables. The simulated annealing is used to solve the primary problem, and particle swarm optimization (PSO) mixed with beetle antennae search (BAS) is used to solve the subproblem.
Findings
The paper finds that BAS can increase the stability of PSO and keep the advantages of PSO’s rapid convergence. By implementing these algorithms on emergency planning after the Wenchuan earthquake that happened in China in 2008, this paper finds that the priority of different levels of injured people is influenced by several factors. Even within the same disaster, the priority of different levels of injured can be inconsistent because of the differences in resource levels.
Originality/value
The authors integrate the shelters, medical centers and DCs as a system, and simultaneously, consider evacuees and injured people and different resource assignments. The authors divide the injured people into three levels and use survival rate function to simulate the survival conditions of different people. The authors provide an improved PSO algorithm to solve the problem.

Abstract
Purpose
To provide a theoretical explanation of why outsourcing relationships are inherently dynamic, in that the dependence of each party upon the other inevitably changes over time and thus so too will the power asymmetries between the parties.
Methodology/approach
Our approach is theoretical and draws upon insights from resource dependence theory, transaction cost economics, and the resource-based view of the firm, to focus on the power asymmetries between the focal firm undertaking the outsourcing and its suppliers. We illustrate our arguments using a longitudinal case study of the evolving relationship between Apple and the Foxconn Technology Group.
Practical implications
For supplier firms, the message is to upgrade, develop distinctive resources and capabilities, and diversify the customer base. Otherwise, suppliers will forever be condemned to low operating margins and the threat of being replaced by cheaper, more agile rivals. For focal firms, the message is not to rest on your laurels. The potency of isolating mechanisms may well dissipate, suppliers will no doubt strive to lessen their positions of dependence and competitors will inevitably emerge, with the result that once-profitable outsourcing arrangements may quickly erode.
Originality/value
We highlight the crucial role played by isolating mechanisms to underpin power asymmetries in outsourcing relationships, and thus enable focal firms to appropriate the rents from externalized value chain activities. We argue that the efficacy of many isolating mechanisms will tend to dissipate over time as competitors emerge to imitate successful strategies and products, and as resource and capability asymmetries erode.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to propose a new genetic algorithm for solving supply chain scheduling and routing problem in a multi-site manufacturing system. The main research question is: How is the production and transportation scheduled in a multi-site manufacturer? Also the sub-questions are: How is the order assigned to the suppliers? What is the production sequence of the assigned orders to a supplier? How is the order assignment to the vehicles? What are the vehicles routes to convey the orders from the suppliers to the manufacturing centers? The authors’ contributions in this paper are: integration of production scheduling and vehicle routing in multi-site manufacturing supply chain and proposing a new genetic algorithm inspired from the role model concept in sociology.
Design/methodology/approach
Considering shared transportation system in production scheduling of a multi-site manufacturer is investigated in this paper. Initially, a mathematical model for the problem is presented. Afterwards, a new genetic algorithm based on the reference group concept in sociology, named Reference Group Genetic Algorithm (RGGA) is introduced for solving the problem. The comparison between RGGA and a developed algorithm of literature closest problem, demonstrates a better performance of RGGA. This comparison is drawn based on many test problems. Moreover, the superiority of RGGA is certificated by comparing it to the optimum solution in the small size problems. Finally, the authors use real data collected from a drug manufacturer in Iran to test the performance of the algorithm. The results show the better performance of RGGA in comparison with obtained outputs from the real case.
Findings
The authors presented the mathematical model of the problem and introduced a new genetic algorithm based on the “reference group” concept in sociology. Robert K. Merton is a sociologist who presented the concept of reference groups in society. He believed that some people in each society such as heroes or entertainment artists affect other people. The proposed algorithm uses the reference group concept to the genetic algorithm, namely, RGGA. The comparison of the proposed algorithm with DGA and the optimum solution shows the superiority of RGGA. Finally, the authors implement the algorithm in a real case of drug manufacturing and the results show that the authors’ algorithm gives better outputs than obtained outputs from the real case.
Originality/value
One of the major objectives of supply chains is to create a competitive advantage for the final product. This intension is only achieved when each and every element of the supply chain considers customers’ needs in every function of theirs. This paper studies scheduling in the supply chain of a multi-site manufacturing system. It is assumed that some suppliers produce raw material or initial parts and convey them by a fleet of vehicles to a multi-site manufacturer.
